Being able to reach each individual student when reading and focusing on phonics is crucial in the first grade. This easel will have many applications in which to help my students grow in guided reading. Having this easel will allow my students to practice vowel and consonant sounds with magnetic letters. It will also give them the ability to understand and model how blends in words are created. Throughout guided reading students will be able to choose a kinesthetic center to practice word sounds, blends, and relationships between letters: this easel will be the heart of this center. Being a second year teacher, but first year in the first grade this easel would help also with reading big books and modeling for my students in English language arts, writing and mathematics.
