I am requesting two mini iPads for my classroom to complete a "Global Warming" project. The mini iPads will be used by my students to do research about global warming. Students will develop a research question and conduct an investigation to observe sea level rise as a result of global warming. Students will also determine that saltwater is denser than fresh water in this project. Students will use the mini iPads to gather information from the UCLA Marine Science Center to give them a better understanding of why saltwater is denser. They will also use the tablets to read online articles about sea level rise and the North Atlantic Current. Receiving funding for this project will improve my students' critical-thinking skills about global warming, allowing them to gather information on a global scale and improve their observation skills. My class will write a creative narrative from the perspective of an animal or person experiencing global warming while living in a certain ecosystem. My students will also participate in a mini UN that focuses on the causes of global warming and provides solutions to end global warming locally and globally. After the project, my students will have a better understanding of why there is such a focus on the melting of the Greenland ice sheet because of global warming.
