Students eyes light up when you tell them they can use a computer or a tablet to learn. The pencil and paper style of learning had developed into using technology in the classroom where students are engaged with learning opportunities that they are excited about. I have requested two tablets for my classroom this year to create a learning environment more accessible to the 21st century learner. Students will use the tablets in the classroom each day to engage in reading opportunities throughout Guided Reading block. Students will practice their listening standard by hearing what good reading sounds like by hearing books on their level that interest them. Students will also use the tablets to engage in quick math fluency games at the start of the day. The fluency activities will boost their condidence as they practice independently and at their own pace. Science activities will also be drived through use of the tablets. Students will watch videos related to our science topics, video classmates in action, and reflect on activities through video and pictures. I feel as if students will grow as learners when they have the opportunity to use technology in ways that speak to them as learners.
