In our classroom, not only do we celebrate books, but we are working to develop the exciting skill of taking responsibility for one's own reading. Many people may think that first graders are too young for this, but we are talking at length about how they can properly use our library and take out their own books. Your generous donation will not only help our first graders access a wider variety of reading materials, but will also provide them with a special place to house their own borrowed books. They will be able to experience a sense of ownership and responsibility in regards to their books. This will contribute to their sense of being part of a reading community, something very much valued in our classroom.
