I'm looking to make our classroom library more diverse and appealing to our student body. I want the children to be able to relate to the literature. Through literature children will be able to appreciate and celebrate their own culture, families, and personal experiences as well as learn about those of others. By having characters that the students can identify with the students will become immersed in literary adventures. Books facilitate discussions at young ages as to what makes us unique and also what ultimately makes us all the same. My hope is that through our library my students will have a well rounded foundation, be proud of who they are and accepting of what others are as well. The books and bookshelf requested will enhance their love of books as well as open their minds to various cultures and situations.
