I come from a community that has been hit economically hard over the past few years. This has lead to all ten of the elementary schools in the county to be labeled Title 1. This means that our students are "at risk of failure and living at or near poverty". Along with this every student in the county is 100% free breakfast and lunch. Despite the labels and economic hardships, my students come to school everyday eager and willing to learn! First and second grade is a time where academic growth is expected. Curriculum speaking it can be a challenge when having to teach two grades. My students are engaged all day with various small and whole group academic activities; such as guided reading and intervention groups. When you provide a variety of learning styles and resources, the students strive to do and be their best. My students are up for the challenge and all that awaits are the opportunities to be given.
