I am a Montessori teacher, teaching in a Title 1 Urban school. My classroom is made up of 3,4, and 5yr olds. The great thing about Montessori is that the same children remain with you for 3 years, this allows you to get to know the children and families. As the children grow they move from being the little guys to being the "elders" of the classroom. The older children help the younger children navigate the classroom community. Montessori allows many opportunities for the children to grown in independence. My favorite moment is when a child says, " I did it,all by myself!" Many of the materials we use allow for hands on learning. We hope to develop the whole child, not just the academic side. I love my job and my children and I am constantly looking for new ways for them to learn about the world around them.
