Our classroom has an extreme need for leveled texts to support beginning readers as they lay their literate foundation. Currently, we have very few leveled texts to support this critical foundation. At our school, we are given access to print leveled texts. This results in black and white paper books that fall apart and do not engage a beginning reader. With your help, these engaging leveled books will allow students to progress at their own individual pace and become successful readers. These books will be used in small groups and individual settings for years to come. I assess students as they read, and can select books that are "just right" for their current needs. When a student is given a "just right" text, they grow their background knowledge, learn vocabulary, make connections, improve comprehension, and have a feeling of success that is undeniable! These are the moments you live for as an educator.
