My art students are second and third graders who work all year on "hands on" projects chosen from our state art education frameworks. We have approximately 400 bright and creative children who mostly come from poor homes. They live in the delta region of Arkansas and rarely attend cultural activities or visit art institutions. Getting to use a paint brush, cut a collage, or make a clay pot (some for the first time) is a very exciting and rewarding educational experience. My classroom budget does not allow me to purchase the more expensive air dry clay needed to let them keep their projects
