The students engage in guided reading daily in the classroom. During guided reading, the students come to me, the teacher, to work on word work and other reading activities.. The boogie boards will allow us to practice word work quickly and efficiently. The words can be written quickly and I can support my students with no marker stains or mess. By having boogie boards, students will be able to experience a new type of technology and focus on their learning! By donating to our project, you will help to improve and increase student reading knowledge in a low-economics area. I also want to provide my students flexible seating during guided reading, to replace their chairs for several reasons. The most important being that I want to add a regular kinesthetic component to their learning environment. It will help my ADHD students to focus better. Students are already adding it in their own way - rocking and leaning back in their chairs. This is dangerous and I have had several students fall and I am daily asking my students to “fix their chair”. A second reason is simply because our guided reading chairs are far too big for my students and are falling apart. It is difficult to get enough new chairs for our classroom without giving up money from our site that would be better used in other areas. Overall, both the boogie boards and flexible seating will enhance my guided reading lessons. At my Title I school, it is very difficult to receive the items needed for our struggling students. Guided reading is the MOST important part of my students’ learning due to their lack of reading skills. I truly believe these materials will aide me in helping these students get a foot forward in their already difficult lives.
