Shields MS serves a predominantly immigrant, bilingual community on the southwest side of Chicago. Whereas the average household income is low, our families' hopes and dreams for their children are high. In addition to a solid foundation in reading, writing, math and science, our students must leave the 8th grade with the habits of mind and social-emotional skills that will ensure their success in high school. Further, that students participate in meaningful experiences that develop the idea that college is not only a possibility, but is in their hands to make a reality!

About my class
