I am so excited to tell you all about a new adventure in my classroom! After careful research and much contemplation, I decided to incorporate Flexible Seating into my fifth-grade classroom. While I have always had a variety of seating options in my classroom (bean bag chairs, small rugs, and a comfortable ottoman), this idea of flexible seating is very different from what I had implemented in my classroom before. My goal is to provide a variety of seating options that will appeal to the variety of learners we have in our classrooms today. I want to have four standing desks with fidget bands for the students that need to stand up and move while working. I want to provide an area rug as many students like to sit on the floor with a clipboard and a cushion. I want to offer a low table with stability cushions for those students that like to kneel or sit with a table to use. I would also like to purchase soft lighting in the form of paper lanterns with LED lights and icicle lights to reduce the use of harsh fluorescent lights we currently have. I believe that creating a more inviting classroom will motivate students to do their best, channel their energy into a more productive way will allow them to focus better and become more successful.
