My class is a Senior English class in a large urban district. My students all qualify for free lunch programs. My kids have huge hearts and volunteer regularly with various community organizations as a way of giving back to their community. They have a zest for learning. They also do not get opportunities to travel outside of their own neighborhoods. They have expressed a desire to see, firsthand, the things they are learning in school. Trafalgar Square, The Tower of London, The Globe Theater, etc. and to soak in the rich history and connect that to the curriculum. I want to help them realize their dreams and SHOW them, rather than simply explain and flip through pictures from my travels. My kids deserve to have the experiences that kids from more affluent families have.
