First graders need to move and manipulate objects to learn best. When we have these resources in our classroom it makes math come alive for these young students. It's no longer an idea in their mind or on a paper. Now it is counting up on a number line and racing their friend to get to a certain number first. It is looking at a domino and seeing a math fact and then taking that math fact and putting it in a fact family. It is discovering that measuring with bears and measuring with unifix cubes is not the same! Math concepts become more concrete with practice in our math centers. With your support, I will be able to bring these much needed math materials to my students.
