The classroom is like a child’s second home. They look for things that feel familiar and find comfort in an environment that is calm and fun. As an adult, we want to be comfortable during a long workday. We will find that perfect chair and sit on it a few hours a time. Scoop rockers are a positive and effective way to make learning more comfortable and engaging. Students can move around the room versus being stuck to a specific square on the carpet during independent literacy or whole group instruction. Many have attention problems or sensory needs; being able to move and change seating from a chair to a scoop rocker can eliminate behavior issues that may arise. Students are able to move their legs more freely. No more criss cross applesauce and sleepy legs. Scoop rockers are great way for collaborative work where they can be in close proximity to have meaningful and purposeful discussions. Students can also find a quite space, get tucked into their scoop rocker, and engulf themselves into a great book.
