"Aw, man, why do we have to read so much!?" That's is something that teachers at my school hear all too often. The district's basal is boring and unrelatable to the the students at my school. The 4th grade team has started a Novel Study initiative to get the students excited about reading! Students who love to read will be students who love to learn, and we want to get these kids excited to read! Many 4th graders walk in on a 2nd grade reading level, feeling like failures, and ready to give up all-together. I believe that, by giving them novels that are more fun, more relatable, and more accessible, we will see an increase in both test scores and, more importantly, their love of reading.
