As a public school educator in a rural geographical area, I often experience the challenges of trying to provide our youth the same educational and athletic opportunities as other school systems our size or larger can offer. Within the last three years we have had the assistance of the Maine Army National Guards providing Engineering training opportunities to their Guardsmen by constructing a soccer field for our youth. The final phase of the field construction is complete; however, we are left with the task of acquiring field lighting, perimeter netting, scoreboard and bleachers to complete the entire project. No part of this project was funded by any school budget subsidies. All past funding sources have been acquired through fund-raising efforts; yet we now need assistance for the final completion of the project.
