With lady liberty in our own backyard, my classroom/school embodies the essence of the land of the free and what is written at her feet, "Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door! The Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation, Inc". We have many different cultures, religions, languages spoken, but most importantly, we have many immigrants coming to the United States looking to make a better life. Many of these students come from economically disadvantaged homes, where parents and other family members work multiple jobs just trying to make ends meat. Some of our students are homeless, or cannot afford basic hygienic needs. They also, deserve a place to come everyday that is welcoming and safe. These projects help to address some of these basic needs.
