Osmo will help my student learn foundational and reading skills imperative for them to learn English. It will do it in a fun interactive way. It will develop their spelling skills and they will be able to use it in a cooperative learning environment. My students will use Osmo in a cooperative learning set up that promotes language use and student interaction. The skills will be on the Osmo and they will each have a set tiles to spell and manipulate the answer in a hands on manner. They will take turns changing previous set roles and managing the iPad. They use the iPad to guess the secret vocabulary word. Each letter they get right appears on screen, until eventually the word is revealed. They will practice spelling in a engaging setting. The WORDS component of Osmo also permits me as a teacher to customize the academic language to my ELLs' and dual tagged special education students' needs. Yes. Some of my students are both ELLs and special education! My students will be able to overcome the challenges of language and be able to speak and read in English in a fun standard based educational setting.
