I would love for each one of my students to have their own copy of the different books we read in my class through the year. As of right now I only have a class set of one book we read the entire year - for both 7th & 8th grade. Physically holding a book allows for the mind to wonder and imagination to grow. When my students come into the classroom at the beginning of the year, I want them to know and see that reading is important! The books (Hatchet, The Outsiders) are to allow each of my students to have a physical copy in class with the possibility of sending a book or two home for students who missed readings. In previous years I had to make copies of books and create my own book. They would get destroyed for various reasons. The bookshelves are so that the books can be properly stored and displayed. For the past couple years, I have witnessed that students struggle with writing, grammar, and reading. I am trying to gather as many ELA mastery text books as possible to start the first day of class running.
