The world is a crazy place for our children. Everyday I am given evidence of this through the connections I have with my students. They have fears, excitement, confusion, confidence, anger, passion and every other emotion you can think of, that they are trying to make sense of and deal with every day. They deserve a place to escape...let it be in the pages of a book. A place where they can be immersed in new surroundings, exposed to new people, and challenged by new situations. Even if it is only in their minds within the pages they are reading. A learning disability should never get in the way of creating a love of reading. Graphic novels and engaging popular book titles can be the catalyst to a love of reading. I believe students need to be given freedom to choose books to read, however it can be daunting to go to the public library or search the web for a new book. Help me build a classroom library designed for students with learning differences and you are helping students find a love of reading.
