My goal is to create a sensory friendly classroom setting that appeals to all of my students' needs. I want my classroom to be a welcoming, comfortable place where students feel relaxed and ready to learn. As adults, we get more done when we're comfortable and at ease. The same goes for children. Research has shown that allowing students to choose their seating style improves engagement and focus in the classroom. Having seating choices (such as bean bags) rather than traditional desks and chairs, will help make them at ease and increase their ability to focus in all subject areas. Light filters will ease the harshness of fluorescent lights and allow for a more soothing atmosphere.
