As I mentioned, we do literacy centers and math centers daily. I am constantly trying to change my centers to keep them fun, new, and engaging, while helping my students master the necessary concepts and developing a love for literature! These items will assist me in doing so. The students will use the flashlights for a reading camp out center. The alphabet boxes and match a sound kit will be used for the students to match beginning sounds with a partner; they will love all of the little objects that they actually get to touch and feel versus picture cards. I will also use the seats as flexible seating in my library. The foam will be used to build their fine motor skills, one example is by using the foam to form each letter of the alphabet. The Nursery Rhyme Kit is for my Poem of the Week center to give the students the opportunity to interact with each poem and extend their learning beyond just reading it with me. The paintbrushes will be used for so many things... one way is giving the students the opportunity to retell a story we've read through a painting. These are just a few of the exciting things I plan to do with the items I have asked for. What we learn with pleasure, we never forget! This is the motto for my instruction. I constantly want to provide my students with memorable, pleasurable, hands-on experiences that they will never forget! I am working on removing all paper/pencil activities from my classroom to support developmentally appropriate, hands-on learning experiences for all of my students. While the students are engaged in centers with all of these exciting activities, I will have the opportunity to pull small groups for guided reading.
