I teach AP English Language and Composition/English 11, which focuses on American Literature, but specifically nonfiction literature. I work in a high-need community, where 48% of the students are low-income (receiving free and reduced lunches). 8% of the students are English learners, 51% of students are Hispanic/Latino, and 30% of students are white. Many of the students are the first in their families to pursue college degrees, and the early college academy where I am teaching helps students earn college credit while in high school.
