As an elementary physical education teacher, it is my privilege to educate individuals at a young age about the importance of a physically active lifestyle and healthy eating habits. It is also a personal goal of mine for my students to experience many sports so that they become aware of the many fun activities they can be involved in and play outside of the school setting. Knowledge is power and healthy habits are best learned at a young age. I believe that when children are presented with correct and appropriate knowledge of health and fitness, that they can help themselves and those around them that make good decisions on their health. I also believe that if they experience exercise and fitness in a positive light that they will likely stay with it for the rest of their life. Sports is a great teacher of life. Playing sports teaches one how to win and lose with grace, sportsmanship, and cooperation. Sports also is a fun outlet for children and adults to stay in shape. I believe that exposing children at a young age to sports will teach them how to cooperate with others that they may not like for a common goal. With these items that I have asked, my students will develop a deeper sense of enjoyment in physical education and the games we play.
