I moved to Memphis in 2015, bright eyed ready to take on the world of education. Now onto year 5!!!!!!!, I can say without a doubt I am madly in love with teaching. Teaching reading and writing, is so much more than having students: read a prompt and write to show mastery. Writing is a revolutionary act. Here in Memphis, in particular the 38106 area code, my students face astronomical hardship. Daily crime, poverty, limited resources, and complicated home lives are all a part of their complex narratives. However, together we have begun to create and nourish a place where they not only be honest with themselves, but also write, think, and feel to create change. These students are the agents of change that their communities, families, and city need!
