The books that we need will help my students in our first non-fiction reading unit, which was designed to help them learn the necessary skills to engage in the research teams and projects that will be necessary if the upcoming generation is going to solve the many problems that are fast descending on us. In order to foster a classroom of engaged readers, I need to have a library filled with exciting non-fiction books that are at their reading level. Right now, I do not have enough books about weather and natural disasters for my students. I am requesting a wide variety of books about natural disasters and weather. I will be teaching them how to read "for information" as opposed to "reading in the waiting room." My students will practice and improve their presentation skills after they have read and applied the strategies that we will learn.
