We run programs geared toward building leadership skills and confidence in teens. Specifically, 4 events through the year where teens are co-facilitators for an overnight retreat that teaches positive coping skills, independence and leadership abilities. Other than staffing, these events are not school funded and we are completely reliant on donations. It is through the activities we do and the tangible reminders that we are able to send students home with that teens are able to apply what they've learned to everyday life. As we have an economically diverse population, these donations will allow for sponsorship opportunities to include any student who wishes to attend Awareness Weekend. Additionally, the folders and pencils will be used to keep family groups, schedules and activities organized. Finally, we give each student a yarn necklace called a "Warm and Fuzzy". They share a string of yarn with each other as an introductory ice breaker, for this a great deal of yarn and rubber bands are necessary.
