The students are at school seven hours a day. I feel alternative seating will give them chances to get away from their plastic chairs and desks. When they are reading they don't have many places to go that are comfortable. When I ask them where they read at home, it is always on the couch or in bed. Getting these chairs will allow them the chance to move around the classroom and sit comfortably while they work with a partner or silent read. Many kids are very active. It seems that I am getting more students that have ADHD, ADD, or need sensory accomodations. Many students with attention issues will be able to use the ball chair or the cushion while I teach. The alternative seats will give them options to choose from and see which one fits them best. They can move around in their space while they are engaged in learning.
