Children do not need to sit in at a desk or table all day to learn. In fact, over the last few years in my own classroom, I have seen students choose to stand, sit on stools, and sit on the floor while working. As long as they are working, I let them. Why not? If they are not bothering anyone and they are learning, I let them. Would you want to sit in a chair all day and not be able to move around? Seeing my students learn in so many different ways (standing, sitting, moving, and kneeling) made me want to create a classroom environment that would make them comfortable. Research has proven that movement increases brain function, so it is my hope that my students are given the chance to move around the classroom instead of being confined to plastic chairs for a lengthy amount of time. By providing a donation, my students will be given the chance to sit where they wish during the school day. Giving students options allows them to feel in control of their environment. One of my main goals as an educator is to provide an environment where students to take control of their choices and become owners of their learning. In addition, the different seating arrangements will enable them to choose their premium learning style. I will use the Wobble Chairs and the Fitball Seating Discs to provide students options for flexible seating and movement. Both of these seating options will allow students to move while they are independently working or actively engaged in a lesson. They can be used during whole group, small group, guided reading, center time, and individual seat work time. Please help to provide my students with a cozy class so everyone can learn in comfort!
