My students are the most wonderful young people who are often left behind. I consider them to be like diamonds that have yet to be mined! Often they have some special gift that needs to be tapped and exposed to their parents, their peers and fellow staff, and that is my job...to find the jewel and expose it! Traditional means of teaching higher level math does not guarantee one will reach these children. Considering there are (depending upon how you count) at the very least 8 different kinds of intelligence, when adding a physical or manipulative component you have widened your net. Worlds open up to children when they must move and manipulate objects (in this case to see equality) who may not be gifted as visual or auditory learners.
