I will be using the big books purchased to provide shared reading opportunities. Throughout the process of shared reading, students will have plenty of chances to develop both their receptive and express language. Enlarged text will assist me in modeling how to access print, and to allow for interactive lessons related to print and emergent literacy. Language is learned in part by providing opportunities for students to listen to and speak with proficient language models. Listening stations offering pieces of quality literature will be used to support the development of students' receptive language. Story props will be used to lower the affective filter, and incentivize students to retell and act out stories in order to further their expressive language development.
