The students at our elementary school (grades K-6) come from a variety of ethnic and socio-economical backgrounds, creating a diverse learning community within our school district. With over 650 students, 67% are considered economically disadvantaged. Despite their limitations, our students excel in both academics and the arts, and are highly recognized within our school district for their achievements. As part of their yearly curriculum, students in elementary school attend weekly music classes. A highlight of our district, all students in 6th grade participate in beginning band. This provides everyone the same opportunity to learn a musical instrument, teaching students not only useful life skills, but also enhancing learning in other subjects, which will in turn create well-rounded, successful, and creative members of society.
