I am a Kindergarten teacher teaching in a small rural school where I grew up. It is a wonderful feeling to go to work each day to a place I can call "home." I have 15 of the most adorable students! They are working extremely hard to learn to read. Reading is essential for a child's success. Learning to read is a sequential process. Each new skill builds on the mastery of previously learned skills. In my classroom we follow a very routine schedule of Phonics and Reading lessons to build these skills. Our class project, ABC's and 123's is for a large area rug with the alphabet and numbers on it. This rug will be used daily for carpet time. It would provide a soft, comfortable place for the children to sit on while learning their alphabet as well as learning to count.
