Math CAN be fun! I teach fourth-grade at a high-poverty school in Northern California. At least 3/4 of my 31 students perform below standard in math and many start fourth-grade without a solid foundation to build upon. Some of my students start the year without understanding the concepts of addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and place value. Without this foundation, they will continue to struggle and never catch up to their peers.
