The books that are being requested will be used during our independent reading time. I need high interest novels and nonfiction to engage the students and keep them interested in reading. They will gain many reading skills such as visualization, questioning, inferring, determining importance, and synthesizing. The students will also work on building fluency, defining vocabulary using context clues, and higher level thinking skills. My students love reading, and they are plowing through the books we already have! Just yesterday, they presented me with a request to purchase another copy of The Fault in Our Stars because there are so many students on the waiting list to read it.
