We live in a Navy town and students are used to moving often. For this reason, we have learned that it is often necessary for us to quickly adapt to a student's learning needs. One big way we have found was that students need their bodies to be in different positions to best learn; whether it be sitting in chairs, on the floor, in rocker seats, laying down and even standing. Our school is very big into differentiation and making every decision based on what is best for the student when it comes to learning and curriculum. So we thought, why not view classroom setup the same? This was the driving force behind researching flexible seating for a wonderful group of students. In First grade, I have already noticed them becoming more aware of their learning and their learning choices when I ask, " Where is the best place for YOU to work?". We are a student centered school and love finding new ways to make our students the true focus of our teaching, school and classrooms.
