One of the hardest things about teaching Second grade is remembering that they are still just 7-8 year-olds that are full of energy. While I keep my classroom expectations high, I know these kids are in need of more opportunities to move their bodies. These stability balls and wobble cushions will help those to students to keep moving while focusing on their work. Having the ability to get their wiggles and fidgets out while still staying on task will help to allow students to reach their full potential. In 2003, a study was published in the American Journal of Occupational Therapy concluding that in students with ADHD, sitting on therapy balls improved behavior and legible word productivity. In other words, students using ball chairs were able to sit still, focus, and write more words clearly. I hope that the addition of these stability balls will help yield the same results in our classroom.
