One of the best ways to level the playing field between verbal and nonverbal children in my classroom has been through the power of music. When they are dancing or singing, all of their differences disappear. Unfortunately, our program provides us with cds and tapes to use in the classroom. This has been difficult because when working with 4 and 5 years olds, you need to start an activity quickly and if you don't, you lose them. An iPod provides instant music as well as books on CD so the children can touch the photo of the book and listen.
