My 5th grade classroom consists of students from all different backgrounds. The majority of my students are on free or reduced price lunch, indicating meals and clothes are not easily provided for them. When students are in the classroom, I want them to feel safe and brave enough to show who they really are. My classroom is focused on positive, motivational words that can help build the confidence a lot of them lack. Along with teaching, my job is to enforce and show each student their true potential. Several of my students do not think they can ever attend any colleges, due to finances and skill level. I assure my students that they are able to achieve anything they put their heart and mind to. When mistakes are made, I encourage students to reflect on what happened and how he/she can fix it. My main goal is for students to understand their self-worth and abilities. Since my students belong to broken, low-income homes, I want the 6.5 hours they are spending with me to be their safe zone.
