In a classroom that uses flexible seating, students are given the opportunity to have a voice and a choice in their individual learning environment. I want my students to be able to choose how they learn best by having a variety of seating choices. Students can choose between traditional seating, bounce chairs, wiggle seats, crates or pillows and mats on the floor. Students who choose to sit away from a traditional desk will need clipboards or trays to use when writing. Flexible seating has been shown to increase student focus and on task behavior. It also gives students an opportunity for physical activity in the classroom. Students have just one 30 minute recess period per day and PE only once every six days.
