Students learn best from being able to see where they make mistakes and being able to learn from them. Using the technique, "My Favorite No", I anonymously present examples of students work to show what students did right and where we need to look again. Being able to see real-life examples from members of their very own class makes a huge difference in students' understanding and learning experiences. I love being able to see student faces light up when I use their work as an example. It teaches students that there is ALWAYS something to celebrate in our work (even if the end product isn't quite right) and that mistakes are part of the learning experience. With COVID-19 forcing half of my class to stay at home this year, I want to be able to connect with them in their homes and show the work of their classmates, engaging them back into the real-life classroom. A document camera will allow this connection to happen, interweaving the classroom in front of me and that of my virtual world!
