My school is located in beautiful Sevier County, TN (home to the lovely Dolly Parton). Our students come from a rural, high poverty area. Most of our students qualify for free and reduced lunches which has given our school a Title I designation. Because of the high poverty, the access that these students have to materials such as new books is minimal at best. Even though they are from a high poverty area, my students are some of the brightest minds in our area. My school focuses on college readiness, and as a result, many students are attending post secondary institutions during their Senior year! In English class our focus is always on creating, questioning, doing, and experiencing--much of which they cannot afford to do if not through school. My goal is to create a positive, warm, and safe environment that excites students to learn. I want them to know they are cared for, loved, and that I believe in them.
