The purpose of this project is to build our classroom library. Right now we have a very limited number of books for the children to borrow. We make due with what we have but these materials will greatly increase the breadth and depth of materials available for the children to read. The scholastic magazines will give them access to current events, global awareness, and cultural experiences. The novels will expand their schema. In our class, the children have 30 minutes everyday to read books of interest to them. This gift of time gives me the unique opportunity to help them find their reader's identities and to build the joy and love of reading.
