I run a very active classroom! We make time each day for Dance Wii, "Brain Gym," and movin' and groovin' music breaks. Currently I have 17 Alphabetter Stand Up Desks with Swinging Footbars, 4 Fisher Price Smart Cycles, 3 pedal desks, 3 balance boards, 1 mini trampoline, and a treadmill. Children are by nature kinesthetic learners, and the ability to wiggle and move throughout the day enhances the brain's ability to acquire and retain information. What makes us move makes us think. The benefits of kinesthetic classroom furniture and practice are numerous. A kinesthetic classroom offers researched-based results in a number of key areas such as reduced behavior referral rates, increased attention/focus, and decreased stress levels (for both students and teachers!) In short, the brain uses motor skills to lay the framework for learning.
