My students are excited about the power of choice and learning. While these students are in my room I want them to feel at home, while being conducive to learning and meeting their individual needs. I feel like this can happen through seating. Many students have unique needs and struggle to sit in a typical chair all day, but with the use of flexible seating these students have the power of choice: choosing what they want to sit on, where they want to sit, and it gives them a sense of power or control, many of them do not receive. This seating would also meet the needs of those students that have sensory issues, hyperactivity, attention problems, or simply think the regular chair is uncomfortable. Students would benefit from stability balls, which would allow them to sit at their desk, but not in a traditional chair. The balls allow the students to wiggle and move as needed. The lap desks will allow the students to move around the room and work if needed, along with the gardening kneeling pads, allowing students to sit anywhere they’d like and have sOmething to sit on . The bouncy bands will be placed on students' chairs to allow them to move their feet while sitting and releasing some of their energy. The hand fidget toys will allow students to have a kinesthic calming mechanism while having sitting in the place they chose . The stools will be used at our group work table, to allow a little more choice for students that need that option. I think students can be successful while having the opportunity to learn and sit on or where they want. I want to provide students with the BEST learning environment available, give them the power of choice!
