Teenagers today, especially those with learning disabilities or attention deficits, are struggling with the balance of their high tech, active lives and the traditional demands of adults preparing them for the world of work. My colleagues and I are learning specialists in a smaller learning community (freshman teams) where we co-teach in the four core classes and differentiate curriculum to meet the needs of all learners, allowing many more students with learning disabilities to participate in the general curriculum. We then have a study skills class for the special education students to re-teach core content and teach study skills.
