Hi! This is Mary Beth Merrell formally of Massey Hill Junior High in Fayetteville, NC, Currituck County High School in Barco, NC and presently I am a high school (9-12) music teacher at Northeastern High School in Elizabeth City, NC. I teach in the northeastern part of North Carolina in a very low income rural area. Approximately 48% of our students receive free and reduced lunch. Money for extra materials for my music classes has to be found in large part through grants and fundraisers. In years past my principal has done a wonderful job of giving me money each year to use for music and materials, however as we all know, unfortunately that time has come to an end at no fault of his own. I teach an auditioned concert/show choir, five levels of piano theory, and music appreciation. A large number of our Exceptional students include music classes as their electives and find that they have talent in the music area.
