My classroom consists of 19 fourth graders with various abilities and disabilities. 1 of my students is an ESL student, English as a Second Language, while 4 of my students receive special education services. The neighborhood in which my school sits is a nice, older neighborhood. However, the neighborhood kids go to private schools, which leaves my students, many of which are bussed in from other areas around town. Our school has approximately 90+% receiving free or reduced price lunch due to household income. Even though our free or reduced lunch rate is so high, we do not receive Title I funding due to the surrounding neighborhood. I love my students and see the struggle they face each day first hand. I would love nothing more than to see them succeed short term as well as long term.
