I am a K-12 school counselor in a rural, low income/high poverty school district and I serve just under 200 students. I teach character education and career development. I take on any daily "crisis" that may be happening, do special education testing, coordinate & oversee the A+ program/students, coordinate the Journey to College activities throughout the year, take students on college visits, hold student seminars with representative from various colleges and trade schools, do high school student scheduling, and a slew of other things. There is rarely a dull moment here, you probably couldn't even dream up some of the challenges I am faced with. However, there are rewards as well. I get the opportunity to build a relationship with students, be a good influence in a world that's full of bad, and I get the chance to make a significant impact on their life, and empower them to succeed in challenging world.
